Dysport®

What is Dysport®?

Dysport® is abobotulinumtoxin A, specifically an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent, that works by weakening or relaxing the muscles of facial expression. Repetitive frowning, concentrating, and squinting can cause the muscles to contract causing furrows, folds, and "crow's feet". Dysport® blocks the release of acetylcholine and reduces muscle activity that could cause wrinkles to form. The treated muscle is weakened, the pull of the muscle relaxes and the overlying skin flattens and the wrinkles are reduced and become smoother for a refreshed appearance.

Who is Dysport® for?
Dysport® is for women and men who would like to temporarily improve the look of both moderate to severe frown lines and crow's feet.

What body areas are treated with Dysport®?
Dysport® is used for treating facial wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyes, fine lines around the mouth and in the "crow's feet" areas.

What kind of results should I expect with Dysport®?
Wrinkles are reduced and become smoother for a refreshed appearance.

How long do the Dysport® injections take?
Dysport® injections vary depending on how many sites that are treated but generally take no longer than10-15 minutes.

How long before the results of Dysport® can be seen?
Dysport® results are noted within 1-2 days following the injection and the full effect of the Dysport® injection is noted after 4 weeks.

How long does Dysport® last?
Dysport® last 3-4 months with optimal results.

What does the Dysport® procedure feel like?
The discomfort is minimal and numbing is not necessary. A small amount of Dysport® is injected into several different sites in an area with a very small needle, hat feels like a little pricking sensation or a bug bite. Occasionally, a small black or blue area (bruise) may develop at the needle injection site because a small blood vessel may have been punctured a small during the injection.

What is the recovery time for Dysport®?
There is no recovery time. However, our physician may give you a cold pack or anesthetic cream to place over the injection area a few minutes before and after the procedure. This procedure can be done on your way to work or on your lunch hour.

What are the side effects with Dysport®?
You may experience tenderness, swelling, bruising, redness, bleeding, pain, and infection at the site of injection. Occasionally, a small black or blue area (bruise) may develop at the needle injection site because a small blood vessel may have been punctured a small during the injection. If any of the Botulinum toxin reaches a facial muscle not being treated, partial weakness of that muscle may last for several months. It is this reason that you are requested not to massage the injected area for 12 hours following injection. In the event of unwanted muscle weakness, the only treatment is to wait for the effect of the toxin to wear off.

What are the contraindications for Dysport®?
Do not take Dysport® if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Dysport®; have had an allergic reaction to any other Botulinum toxin; allergic to cow's milk protein; or have a skin infection at the planned site of injection.
